You can add or remove various tools from your Light Phone's menu using the dashboard website.
Hotspot functionality is currently available in the settings of the phone.
We'll be rolling out new tools ongoing as they are ready to be released.
Music, a simple music player for listening to a playlist of your songs is expected August.
The next wave of tools includes directions, voice memo, and a calendar reminder tool.
Ride-sharing, a much requested tool, is also currently in development and we're looking to work with Lyft and/or Uber on that tool. This requires the platform's collaboration, so it is a little bit more complicated than some of the other tools we plan to release in terms of predicting timeline.
NOTE: We hope to get a more solidified timeline to share regarding the other tools, but the pandemic has made it even harder to get concrete timelines in place, thanks for understanding.
What are optional tools?
In addition to the core phone functionality, the Light Phone II will soon have the option of adding some other features to the phone, which we call 'tools'. The phone is your customizable toolbox, and you can add or remove various tools, things like a calculator, voice memo, or directions, using the dashboard website.
These tools are all built by Light specifically for this phone, designed to fit the Light OS typographic based aesthetic. Intentionality is built into our tools, they serve a clear function. There are no infinite feeds, no social media, news, advertising or email ever. We're excited to work with our users to continue to develop tools that make sense for the Light Phone II.
Longer term tools:
We've had a lot of users ask about the possibility of tools like Spotify, Signal, What'sApp or other platforms. While we aren't ruling any of these off the table and will continue to explore what is possible, these tools will require a deeper collaboration with the platform in order for us to offer it on the Light Phone II and so we are unable to provide any realistic timeline at this moment.
