The Music tool for the Light Phone II is a simple, one playlist, music player. Upload audio files via the dashboard website, and they will sync and store on your Light Phone II. You can upload audio books or meditation exercises as well, of course!
We recommend watching this animated overview of the Music tool:
Notes on the Music Tool:
-The phone must be running the LightOS version v.114 or later for the Music tool to be installed on your phone. Click here to learn about how to update to the latest software.
-Uploading songs to be synced with your Light Phone II will use data. Please connect your phone to WIFI prior to uploading audio files to the dashboard if data usage is a concern for you. The audio files will be stored locally on the phone's hard drive, and will not require data to playback once downloaded into your phone's Music tool.
-If a song is uploaded but does not appear in your playlist, that means it failed to convert, please try uploading that file again.
-There is a 1gb limit for the playlist currently.
-Syncing songs with the dashboard can also be straining on battery life, we'd recommend plugging in the phone to a charger if you plan to upload a lot of files at once.
-Long pressing the Toolbox Menu button (right side on the phone, large center button) while a song is playing is a quick way to navigate back to the currently playing song interface from other parts of the phone (like if you need to pause or skip the song).
-There are a few outstanding headphone / bluetooth speaker compatibility issues that we are currently investigating. If you experience an issue, please let us know at support@thelightphone.com so we can look into it. Sorry for the inconvenience if this affects your experience.
Uploading with the Dashboard:
Once the music tool has been added to your phone's toolbox via the dashboard website, you can begin to upload your audio files. Click into the Music tool, and select "Add songs". Select or drop the songs you'd like upload.
Accepted Files:
The dashboard accepts a variety of file types:
mpeg, mp3, mp4, m4a (although some are limited with DRM), ogg, vorbis, flac, aiff, wma
mpeg, mp3, mp4, m4a (although some are limited with DRM), ogg, vorbis, flac, aiff, wma
Auto Converting Files:
Once uploaded, the dashboard will begin to automatically convert your songs into 256kb mp3 files, an ideal size and compression for the Light Phone II. If the file is less than 256kb it will simply be converted to an mp3 file.
If a song is uploaded but does not appear in your playlist, that means it failed to convert, please try uploading that file again.
Syncing with the Dashboard:
If the device has a reliable internet connection (LTE or Wifi), the playlist will begin to sync to the Light Phone's Music tool automatically. This will use data and can drain battery if syncing a lot of files at once, please consider connecting to wifi and charging the phone.
Issues with syncing?
If you make a change on the dashboard and do not see it reflected on your phone, you can always remove and re-add the Music tool, which will not erase your uploaded playlist, and that reset of the connection might fix any syncing issues.
What if the name of the song is wrong?
You can click any song from the Edit Playlist screen to update its name. Some files types may not store the same meta-data for artist's name and song title, in which case the dashboard will display the file name as uploaded, as one might expect from other platforms for organizing one's music library.
How long are the “playing controls” on the home/lock screen?
The playing controls are displayed on the HOME screen while listening to a song. The controls will disappear once the tool has been paused for over one minute.
Light Sounds
We also created a few ‘light’ sounds that you can download for free and add to your Light Phone’s new Music tool. These songs are intended to be used as background ambience while focusing or relaxing and set to repeat infinitely.
