The Rideshare tool is a unified, ad-free experience to hail rides from either Uber or Lyft. This tool was created in partnership with Tremp, an SMS-based ride ordering service.
Rideshare has long presented a practical problem for people trying to live without a smartphone. Services like Uber and Lyft have become part of everyday transportation, but accessing them typically requires the kind of app-based smartphone we are trying to leave behind. Our Rideshare tool gives users a simple interface designed around the basic task of getting from one place to another.
Note: Tremp charges a 10% service fee (with a $2 minimum) in addition to the fee from Lyft/Uber. As a courtesy to Light users, Tremp is waiving their fee for your first 5 rides within 30 days!
Install & Account Creation
Rideshare is only currently available for the Light Phone III. Your device must be on LightOS v582 or later to use this tool.
Log in to the dashboard website, go to phone > toolbox > (+) to add Rideshare tool. The dashboard allows you to create a Tremp account with your phone number and adding a payment method. If you have not previously used Directions or Directory tool you'll also be prompted for a default location so you can still use the tool before the GPS has primed by searching within your area for locations.
Using Rideshare
Once you open the tool, you'll be asked to confirm your pickup location. The GPS will begin trying to find your current location automatically. You can click the field to manually search for a pickup location as well.
Then you'll need to search for your destination and select it from the results.
Once you confirm your trip's route, you'll be presented with the different fare options that are available for you in that moment, including ETA for the driver to arrive, the estimated trip duration and the fare estimation + Tremp fees.
Your ride is then requested and you'll be given all the necessary info and option to call your driver. You can cancel a ride, but there is often a cancellation fee if the ride has already been requested.
You will also receive automated text messages from the rideshare platform and Tremp to ensure you have everything you need.
Saved Locations
In the settings for the Rideshare tool you're able to add Saved Locations with a label for the places you frequently visit. You can click a location on the list to edit the label or delete the entry from your Saved Locations list. When searching for a pickup location or destination, you'll see the PIN icon so you can select from your Saved Locations list.
Updating Payment or Default Locations
To change your payment method, return to the Dashboard toolbox and remove the Rideshare tool and then re-add it. When you log back in you can change the default payment method.
To update your default location setting go to the Dashboard > Phone > Settings and click in to edit your default location for any tool that shares that preference.
