What is an active & compatible SIM card?
The Light Phone II is an unlocked mobile 4G LTE cell phone. It requires an active and compatible Nano SIM card to be installed into the device for it to work.
An active SIM means that it is has a valid plan with a carrier and is ready for use inside the phone. If it is a brand new SIM card, you may need to look at the carrier's specific instructions for how to activate the SIM.
You can learn more about the phone's network and how to find out if your SIM is compatible using our COMPATIBILITY CHECKER.
Although the phone does not have an internet browser, a 4G LTE compatible SIM is required. We chose to use this modern network for its speed, coverage and reliability compared to older networks like 2G/3G which are being phased out.
Inserting the SIM in the phone:
There is a SIM Key located below the cable in the packaging. Using the SIM key you can open the SIM tray which is located on the left side of the device.
Upon pushing the SIM key into the hole of the SIM slot, a spring loaded mechanism will release the SIM tray. Pull the SIM tray out of the phone.
Insert the Nano SIM card into the SIM tray. Notice that the SIM card has one cut corner that ensures it is inserted into the SIM tray in the correct orientation. Re-insert the SIM tray with the Nano SIM back into the phone itself.
Boot or restart the phone by long pressing the POWER button on the top of the device. Your phone should be ready to use its new SIM card.
Entering a SIM PIN:
Some carriers assign a specific PIN number to the SIM card, to try to prevent the SIM from being used in unintended ways. If the PIN is required, you will be prompted to enter it. This PIN is usually located on the SIM packaging. You might also to try to contact your carrier for you PIN.
